Events around Wales
Cardiff Astronomical Society
24th August 10.30am & 2pm at
the National Museum & Gallery, Cardiff: A free workshop for juniors (5+)
"Make your own telescope" Under 5s can draw and colour what they see
through a telescope.
30th August 2.30pm at the National Museum & Gallery,
Cardiff: A debate entitled "Is there Life on Mars?" presented by Prof
Mike Edmunds and Dr Jonathon Davies.
There will also be an exhibition at
Cardiff Central library and viewing on 2 separate evenings, one in
Cardiff Bay and the other in the City Centre.
FEEDBACK: Cardiff had a "particularly successful week." The
workshops were given top marks by the Museum and even cloudy nights
attracted the public to the "sidewalk" astronomy evenings. The sidewalk
session in the city centre had such a big crowd on Wednesday evening
after all the media coverage, that it even attracted the attention of
the police! An observing session at a dark site also attracted many
people from toddlers to a lady of 91! The sidewalk sessions were such a
success that they are to become a regular feature of the society's
activities. The debate voted against current life on Mars but voted for
life existing in the past.
"All
in all, an excellent week and mostly the weather played ball."
